Change of Address

Little did I know that merely updating my address would save me $57 a year! I have changed my address pretty much everywhere except my auto insurance company. I knew I had to do it but it was one of those things I kept putting off and then forgetting to do. So today I sat down and called the company and updated my address and the rep told me that it would save me $57 a year. The rest of my payment for this policy term will be prorated so I will pay less for the next 3 months! Sweet. I'm mad at myself that I didn't do this sooner because I could have been saving money months ago!

Every little bit helps. Point is you're paying less now, and that's good!

You should be able to contact your insurance company again and have them give you credit for the new address to the actual date you moved there - not just from the date you notified them of the move. Thus they can give you a bigger refund or you'll pay even less for your remaining three months. They will probably want proof of the exact date of your move - show them your lease, phone bills, utility bills, etc. It's worth it to get full credit for your move, regardless if you waited a few months to inform them of the move you did actually move sooner and should be credited for it. Every little bit helps.

Moving to a safer neighborhood has its costs (more rent? More real estate taxes? higher mortgage?).

But it also has its savings: lower insurance, and if you have kids, free and better schools. (as opposed to being forced to pay private school)
